Today's surprise in the garden!

Reading?  Brian M. Wiprud’s BUY BACK.  Where has he been all my life, Brian, that is?  Read a short story of his in an anthology called THESE GUNS FOR HIRE, edited by J.A. Konrath.  The anthology was full of short stories about assassins – many of the authors are very famous and familiar to me.  Never had heard of Wiprud. Having trouble finding his books but am really enjoying the second one I have been able to find at our local library.  Anyway – thanks to Konrath for the anthology that introduced me to some new authors!

Thinking?  Hard not to think about the weather in the dead of winter when the flowers are all coming up and it is supposed to be 72 degrees tomorrow.  So strange.  But it has allowed us to really enjoy our first winter in Spotsy.  The few snowfalls have been magical.  The temperature has been bearable and spring appears to be upon us!  Can’t wait to get all my veggies and perhaps a few fruit trees planted!

Easter lillies?

I have been told these are Easter Lillies.  If that is true I should have a yard full of Lillies in time for Easter as they are coming up everywhere!!!

Gotta tell you – I am still enjoying Spotsy and The Basset Plantation!  Come on down (or up!) for a visit!

I’d do it again.

So my Orlando doctor said it was quite serious and not stable and needed to be checked every 6 months.  He did so for 2 years and collected lots of money from my insurance company.  He was rather cute and seemed well informed and it was not a terrible burden to see him every six months.  Hell – my eyes were always so dilated, maybe he wasn’t really that cute!

New VIrginia Retinal Specialist (not so cute) says it is a stable condition, no need to be checked more than once a year.  Not to worry.  May never progress.

Doctors in Orlando were afer both Rick and me to get our colonoscopy screenings done.  Doctor here told Rick is is a very invasive procedure and they don’t recommend it unless you are having some symptoms of a problem or have a family history of colon cancer. 

Have yet to be to a peek and poke doctor here.  But if I find one who does not insist on yearly Pap and Mammo, you had better believe I will go every other year or how often they suggest.

wtf?   Do we listen to what we want to hear?  To friends?  To the AMA?

And what about Botox?  I would never do it – but I gotta admit – I did not have these lines on my forehead til I started to worry about going blind with Retinoschisis!

And what is up with people starting to look like their partners?  I am not sure hairy and muscles would look as good on me as it does on Rick!

Finishing another person’s sentences is also quite annoying…..altho…..spit it out already and I won’t have to think the rest of it in my head!

I have recently been indulging in a quirky behavior my daughter taught me – snipping the top off of plastic bags.  You know when the frozen veggie or bread bag is bigger that the contents?  Well, she always trims it short and I found myself doing that this week!  Makes sense, space-wise, but I never would have thought of it had I not watched my daughter do it time and time again!

Once I sent my sister a card that read ‘Another year older, another year closer to sounding like Mom.’  My brother’s birthday is 3 days later so his card read ‘Another year older, another year closer to dressing like Dad’!!! 

I started to think of these things because we are advising a friend who is trying to train a rescued dog that the other dogs in the household will show her what to do.  It seems to have worked for those of us who are advising her it is so.  My Tiffin has not had a single accident since he came to us in December.  I am not sure if the other dogs taught him where to do what or if he is just a good, good boy.  A little of both, I suspect!

 Imitation is the highest form of flattery.  Or, so my mother used to say when my little brother and sister copied me.

Now, I am flattered if someone does what I do, so long as it is rescue a dog or read a good book!

He missed one high school graduation and lots of family events and even little day to day doggy milestones.  All precious and all far away from the places the Army sent him.

So I told him I wanted something red, white and blue to memorialize his service (he says OUR service) to the U S of A.  I should know by now that ask and ye (I) shall receive when The Colonel is involved.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Sweetie.  You are appreciated.  You are loved.  And I am so glad you will not have to be missed as you will soon stop traveling for the Army.   I will wear these rings every day to remember that you love me as well as your country.
